The program

The Interinstitutional Graduate Program in Statistics UFSCar-USP (PIPGEs) was started in 2013 from a partnership between the probability and statistics research groups of the Department of Statistics at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences of the University of São Paulo (ICMC-USP).

The main mission of PIPGEs is to prepare researchers with a direct acting in modeling, describing, estimating and predicting random phenomena, as well as their application in areas such as industry, medicine and biology, among others. In pursuit of its mission, the program offers two levels of training, Master of Science and PhD, and stimulates an excellent scientific environment through regular research seminars, the biannual Workshop on Probabilistic and Statistical Methods and the Summer Program in Statistics.

The general research lines of the programa are:

  • Probability and Stochastic Process
  • Statistical Inference
  • Regression Models
  • Machine Learning

It is important to highlight that the campi of both universities are at a distance of only 4 km, allowing students and teachers to easily move to classrooms, seminar rooms, laboratories and libraries.
